Shoe program benefits Tulakes Elementary School students in Oklahoma City

The gym at Tulakes Elementary School is buzzing, and it’s not just the post-lunch blood sugar rush.

This is the day when 60 students who take part in the track program will be fitted for new running shoes. The money for the shoes, about $1,500, was donated by the Landrunners — Oklahoma City Running Club. It’s the second year the club has made the donation. Last year it provided shoes for 10 kids in the track program.

“One of the things we look for is, is there a need,” Landrunners member Jim Hammond said. “Anytime you have a school that is on the school lunch program, there is definitely a need.”
